Abstract

The agricultural sector has played an important role in the development of Brazil by promoting employment, and providing food and
raw materials for the domestic and foreign markets. Nevertheless, the technological backwardness of some regions of the country
results in a weakened agriculture and, in some cases, is unable to go beyond the sectoral sphere and createmore complex economic
aspects. Given this scenario, this article aimed to analyze the dynamics of sugarcane production in the municipalities that comprise the
Matopiba region, based on socioeconomic and technological determinants, for the year 2017, highlighting the issue of productivity.
The methodology used was factor analysis by the principal components method. The results point out that the municipalities with
higher sugarcane productivity have heterogeneity with respect to socioeconomic and technological development. On the other hand,
the municipalities with low sugarcane productivity are more vulnerable with respect to socioeconomic aspects.
