Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the influence of institutional and organizational environment traits and transformations
over the position of a few sugarcane agribusiness of Paraná, Brazil. For this, we analyzed, under the point-of-view of the New
Institutional Economics (NIE), the traits of the institutional and organizational environments, in which the study object agribusinesses
are inserted. This research was qualitative, and the data collection was conducted by means of interviews and electronic correspondence
with representatives of the agribusinesses and with the Bioenergy Producers Association on the state of Paraná (ALCOPAR),
bibliographical research and document analysis. The results show that the effects of institutional transformation, as well as those
of the organizational environment over the choices of the agribusinesses were the same. This was expected given that the analyzed
companies are a part of the same market, economic sector, institutional and organizational environment, and are located within the
same state. We verified that changes in the institutional environment directly impacted the forms of transitioning and positioning
of the companies. We also confirmed actions regarding the change of the institutional environment made by the agribusinesses,
with representatives from all governmental spheres for defending the interest of the sector. We demonstrated that the organizational
environment is well structured within the sugarcane SAG of Paraná, and is fundamental for increasing its logistic efficiency.
