Revealed comparative advantage index: An analysis of the meat complex in the Central-West Brazil region

This study aimed to identify the competitiveness of bovine, porcine and poultry meat in the Central-West region and its impact on the trade balance. In addition, the objective was to analyze the comparative advantages revealed in the export of these products by the region in relation to the country. For that, secondary data were used about the balance of trade and the indicators of Comparative Advantages, Coverage Ratio and Contribution to Trade Balance were used to measure the competitiveness of bovine, porcine and poultry meat and the
Gini-Hirshman index was used to analyze the concentration of exports related to the product. The results showed that the Central-West region presents Revealed Comparative Advantages in beef products. Regarding the Contribution to the Commercial Balance, the region has a positive index for poultry and pork meats, demonstrating the importance of meat to the balance of trade in the Central-West region.
