The free markets of Minas Gerais semi-arid region represent a market in which the input of costs for the local production are reduced or practically non-existent. In such markets several producers participate. They, at the same time, are sellers and, for being intimately linked to provision and consumption dynamics, there are mechanisms that promote the insertion of a portion of the rural and urban population in the pathways of change. Facing the possibility of representing a locus for the implementation of development policies, the objective of this work is to characterize the free market of the municipal district of San Francisco, North region of Minas Gerais, investigating the profile of the product offer, consumers, merchants and producing benefits for the construction of a supportive policy for this market and the actors that participate in it. The methodology was focused on quantity and quality, conducting data collection through questionnaires and semi-structured no participant observation. The results show that the presence of women merchants prevails and that the offer for sales points is diversified, but with prominence for the commercialization of fruits and vegetables. Although they possess land in rural areas, most of the merchants have their main residence in the city, which includes them in a specific profile.
