Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the role of organizations working in the Sectorial Chamber of Milk Production Chain in Product’s Quality Assurance in Mato Grosso do Sul State (SCMPCPQA) to ensure the quality of milk produced in the state. Specifically, it was intended to identify the factors for ensuring the quality of milk in the state, and if the SCMPCPQA is considered by its members as a coordinating agent in this chain of production. To meet these goals, we conducted a research using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. In relation to their goals, they were characterized by an exploratory descriptive approach, revealing a comprehensive framework and at the same time peculiar to the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The results show that the raw material of most of the dairy industry of the state is coming from small producers and that there is no effective action geared by the organizations to this class of producers, as well as actions taken by industry to ensure the quality of raw materials. Noteworthy was the low representation and activities of organizations in transport chain, distribution and marketing of the product. Moreover, it appears that few organizations have recognized the chamber as the coordinator of the production chain.
