The state of São Paulo is responsible for approximately 80% of the national production with two major producing regions. This study aims to analyze the peanut agrichain in Tupã and Marília regions because of their importance in the production and industrialization processes of Brazilian peanut agribusiness. Based on an exploratory research with local growers, cooperatives, agroindustries and supportive institutions, the main features of regional peanut agrichain were identified and studied. The method used was the so-called SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis. The results indicate that this agrichain faces a transition period. Although there are considerable barriers, there are also favorable conditions for increasing its competitiveness. There is a need of a joint action between all links of peanut agrichain to reduce the weaknesses and the threats, and a more efficient coordination to inhibit clandestine business, opportunistic behavior, break contracts, among other obstacles that hinder the growth of the system.
